Ableton Move · Schwung takeover
s3g Thru
A stereo sample instrument with four audio lanes and eight independent voices. Play them as one stack, two independently configured instruments, or four instruments in Quad mode. A performance recorder captures notes, pressure, stack holds, and parameter motion as loopable data.
s3g Thru is an adaptation and extension of the s3g-dsp Sample family, rebuilt around Move’s pads, controls, display, live input, and performance workflow.
manual · next-release draftThis local manual describes 0.30.0-test.39, including the next release’s selectable MIDI modes, Light Reft Monolit Split / Shared Dual mapping, OXI E16 Remote controls and the script-free E16 NRPN + Monolit route, per-note Engine Lists, entry variations and pressure expression, Stochastic sample deformation, Pulsar sample trains, dual-mode Priority Duck, and aligned Tape mixing. The published installer remains at 0.29.1. The installed version appears briefly when takeover opens; see GitHub releases for published downloads and release notes.
Choose Single, Split, Shared Dual, or Quad for different source layouts and voice budgets. All use the same four stereo source lanes and performance recorder.
New in the next release
- Selectable controller modes provide fixed NRPN, current-page Generic CC, Light Reft Monolit and OXI E16 Remote paths without overlapping parameter messages.
- The Monolit example preset places Part A on faders 1–4 and Part B on 5–8 across LIVE, two engine pages, sends, color and rotary banks while retaining every paired button as a local MOTION control.
- The script-free E16 NRPN + Monolit route now protects restored Engine values during scene startup. The exact silent test.38 zero-sweep state is repaired automatically on first load.
- Aligned Tape mixing removes the fixed dry/wet timing mismatch and format/age-dependent channel delay while preserving the eight controls and intentional transport movement.
- Priority Duck lets A or B make space for the other with stereo-linked detection, detector filtering, timing and dry/send routing.
- High-resolution NRPN control separates musical notes from part and shared parameters, with 342 fixed addresses and two-way value feedback.
- The OXI E16 Remote provides engine and effect pages. A occupies the top two rows; B the bottom two. Single, Split, Shared Dual and Quad adapt automatically. Hold E16 Shift and turn encoder 1 to change pages.
- Live value displays identify the edited part and parameter. E16 edits leave Move’s current editing focus and page selected.
New in 0.29.0
- Four new engines: Prism for spectral playback, Morph and Imprint for combining sources, Texture for grouped grains, and Formant for pitch-synchronous sampling.
- Editable stack paths use four to eight points for pauses, uneven travel and repeated lane visits. Capture performance pads provide temporary lane grabs and effects.
- Pattern fades blend complete performances and their sources for up to 30 seconds, with fixed or random timing, curves, Hold, and touch-controlled manual crossfading.
- Sixteen saved chains each hold up to 64 entries, with repeats, WAIT, per-entry fades and Loop, Stay or Stop endings. Clip copy/paste creates independent recorded performances.
- Part capture records an instrument into a lane. Cues remember lane blends, and parameter dials offer finer adjustments.
- On-device help provides 25 topics. The timing reports distinguish rendering CPU time from waiting and support a fresh counter reset.
For an on-device quick reference, leave takeover and open Schwung Global Settings → System → Help → Modules → s3g Thru. See On-device help for navigation.
Quick start · Single mode
These first steps use Single, the default four-lane instrument. A saved clip can recall another mode; choose Single from Capture + Menu → Instrument Mode when following the Basic Playing guide.
- Install Schwung 1.7.3 or newer. In Schwung Manager, choose Install Custom Module → GitHub URL, enter
https://github.com/s3g/s3g-thru, and restart Move when prompted. - On Move, hold Shift, touch the master-volume knob, then jog-click to open Overtake. Choose s3g Thru.
- Use headphones. Select Move's microphone or line input and set its hardware input gain before recording.
- Press Track 1–4 to select a lane. Hold Shift and press Record to start and stop stereo audio capture.
- Press pads to play. In engines with stack motion, pressure offsets that voice’s lane position. Quad stays on one lane per part. Velocity does not change sample volume.
- Press Menu for parameters. The eight screen cells correspond directly to the eight encoders.
- Press Record without Shift to capture a free-time performance-data loop. Press it again to close the loop.
Feedback safety: input monitoring defaults to zero. Keep speakers down or use headphones when a microphone is selected. Increase Monitor only when direct pass-through is intentional.
The three-layer mental model
1 · Four audio lanes
Each lane holds a stereo recording or a WAV from Move's sample library. A clip owns its four source assignments.
2 · Eight voices
Every note has its own playback head, pitch, envelope, stack phase, and pressure offset. Single shares eight voices, Split and Shared Dual assign four to each part, and Quad assigns two to each of four parts.
3 · Sixty-four clips
A01–D16 store source assignments, engine settings, notes, pressure curves, knob gestures, and undoable overdub takes.
