Hardware reference

Shortcut reference

The same control can change meaning by view, but recording gestures remain deliberately distinct: Record captures performance data; Shift+Record captures stereo audio.

On-device help

After leaving takeover, hold Shift, touch the volume knob without turning it, and press Step 2 to open Schwung Global Settings. Hold Shift and click the main encoder for its section picker, choose System, then open Help → Modules → s3g Thru for the quick reference. Choose a topic with the main encoder, click to open, and turn to scroll. Back returns to the topic list. The reference covers samples, lanes and engines, instrument modes, performance loops, and safety shortcuts. Inside Thru, Shift + Menu continues to open the diagnostic reports shown below.

Schwung Skipback

Shift + Capture saves Schwung Skipback audio. This shortcut belongs to Schwung and remains available during takeover. A “Skipback saved” message means Schwung saved recent audio from its rolling buffer as a WAV.

FX Sends: in Split, Shared Dual, or Quad, hold Capture and press Menu, release Capture, choose FX SENDS, then click the main encoder.

E16 Link 5/5. Keeps connection history visible after a brief reconnect message. See reading the E16 report.

Reading the System Report

DisplayWhat it reportsHow to read it
RENDER PEAKLongest audio-block render time since takeover started, in microseconds.Lower leaves more time for the rest of the device. Compare it with WORK PEAK on the next report page; rendering is only part of the work needed for playback.
RENDER MISSESNumber of render calls that exceeded one audio-block period.0 is healthy. If it rises while clicks or gaps occur, reduce costly grain/event settings or active polyphony. This count includes time waiting during the render call and excludes control and query calls. Check Render Timing to distinguish CPU cost from waiting.
CPU PEAKLongest CPU time used by the rendering thread for one audio block.Compare it with the roughly 2,902 µs block period. A rising CPU MISSES count indicates that rendering itself consumed more CPU time than one block allows.
WALL PEAKThe same elapsed render-time peak shown as RENDER PEAK.Includes running and waiting time. Each peak is a separate historical maximum; subtracting displayed peaks does not reconstruct one particular block.
WAIT PEAKLargest per-block difference between elapsed render time and rendering-thread CPU time.A rise with CPU MISSES at zero points toward descheduling or blocking during rendering. It does not identify the cause or measure work outside the render call.
CPU MISSESNumber of render calls whose measured CPU time exceeded one audio-block period.Use this to distinguish DSP load from a high elapsed-time peak. CPU fields show N/A when the CPU clock is unavailable or no fresh reading has been taken.
CONTROL PEAKLongest live parameter or MIDI operation, in microseconds.Watch this while changing controls or playing. A rise helps distinguish control work from engine rendering.
QUERY PEAKLongest display/status query, in microseconds.A large value points to work associated with reading or updating instrument information.
FADE BUF MISSESOutgoing pattern audio-buffer underruns during a crossfade.A rising count can explain a gap or dip during a transition: the outgoing performance was not ready in time. This is separate from RENDER MISSES and WORK MISSES. The count is history and can remain after audio recovers. Timed fades and DONE keep advancing through an underrun; the outgoing audio is bridged smoothly while waiting for its next block. Reset the diagnostic counters to clear it.
WORK PEAKLargest combined time for rendering and the preceding Thru control/query calls.Compare it with RENDER PEAK to see the additional cost of interaction. It excludes work performed elsewhere in Move or Schwung.
WORK MISSESNumber of combined-work intervals that exceeded one audio-block period.Watch this as well as RENDER MISSES. A rise with no render misses indicates that control/query work contributed to overload. Zero cannot rule out an interruption elsewhere in the device.
LIMIT CURRENTGain reduction being applied by the final stereo safety limiter, in decibels.0.0 dB means no current limiting. Brief low values on peaks are normal; a sustained or large value means the summed level should be reduced.
LIMIT MAXLargest limiter reduction observed since takeover started.Use it as peak history. A large maximum with a near-zero current value describes an earlier transient, not continuous limiting.

Large counts are shortened with M or G suffixes so every value remains visible. The report is diagnostic history for the current takeover session; opening or closing it does not reset the counters. In any report view, press Shift+Delete to reset audio diagnostic peaks and miss counters for a fresh test. This report shortcut preserves samples, clips, and the running performance. One 128-frame block at 44.1 kHz lasts about 2,902 µs, and Move and Schwung also need part of that time. Peaks are displayed in whole microseconds; miss counters compare the original nanosecond timings with the block period, so display rounding cannot create a miss. The reports do not measure every cause of a missed device deadline.

Global and waveform controls

ControlAction
Touch knob 3 on Pattern FadeHold the blend for manual crossfading. Touch before selecting a destination to arm a change held at 0%; finger release leaves Hold on.
Click main encoder on Pattern FadeToggle Hold or resume the pattern transition. While idle, toggle manual arming for the next destination.
PadsPlay the current Keys, Slices, Cues, or Rolls layout. Keys and Slices use up to eight source voices; Rolls capture and stutter the combined stereo history of all active playheads at a pad-specific division without stealing those voices.
Pad pressureMove that voice's continuous stack offset when Pressure is Offset. Quad remains on its assigned lane.
Shift + padLatch that pad's note or captured roll; repeat to release it. In Cues, stores the displayed playhead instead.
Knobs 1–8On the waveform page, control POS, FLD, SPD, STAK, RATE, JOIN, the engine’s MODE/PLAY/ORDR, and LEVL. Cutups replaces STAK/RATE with LANE/ADV. Quad reserves both positions. In either dual mode, knob 8 is BLND. On parameter pages, they edit the eight displayed positions.
Hold Capture + bottom-row padLane rides on pads 1–4 and momentary effects on pads 5–8. Pressure changes strength; release restores the current path/settings.
Main click on Stack Path with DRAWOpen Path Editor. Knobs 1–4 select and edit a point; knob 5 changes the point count. Back returns to Stack Path.
Shift + knob 8 in Path EditorTurn clockwise to reset the path to a four-point triangle.
Capture + MenuOpen Pages. Main turn or Up/Down selects; main click opens; Back cancels. Choose FX SENDS for the multi-instrument send and return controls.
Delete + PlayPanic: stop the data loop, finish an active performance take, and release notes, latches, Rolls, and audition. Effect tails decay naturally.
CopyOutside the clip and chain editors, toggle Single / last multi-instrument mode. Choose Split, Shared Dual, or Quad via Capture + Menu → Instrument Mode. See Modes.
Capture in multi-instrument modesA quick tap switches editing focus on release. Hold Capture for the bottom-row performance controls. Split highlights lane numbers 1–2 or 3–4; Shared Dual highlights A/B in the waveform header. Quad cycles A–D and highlights its lane and header letter. See the physical button guide.
Capture + knob 8Adjust Blend in either dual mode, or the focused part’s level in Quad, from any page; release keeps focus.
Shift + CaptureSchwung Skipback: saves recent host audio as a WAV.
Shift + CopyOutside the clip and chain editors, copy engine, pad, envelope, lane-gain, and private insert settings to the other part in dual modes, or the next A–D part in Quad. Keep its samples, cues, notes, and mute state; shared mixing stays in place.
Mute in multi-instrument modesFade the focused part out/in, including Part-mode preview; playheads keep running. Mute persists across mode changes. See silent-part recovery.
Track 1–4Select the lane used by audio record, load, clear, and sample edit. Split also focuses the owning A/B part. Shared Dual keeps focus unchanged. Quad focuses the corresponding A–D part.
Main encoder turnSelect the previous/next lane.
Up / DownTranspose the chromatic or folded-scale pad grid by octave on the waveform page.
Left / RightSelect performance-clip bank A–D. In the Chain grid or Chain parameter pages, select entry pages 1–4 instead.
Step 1–16Select or queue that clip in the current bank. In the Chain grid or Chain parameter pages, select an entry on the current page.
Record or main clickStart/stop performance-data recording.
Shift + Record or Shift + main clickStart/stop stereo audio capture into the selected lane.
PlayStop/start performance-loop playback.
LoopHold/resume lane-stack scanning at its exact crossfade for Single, or the focused part in either dual mode. A released pad recalls its frozen position when retriggered until Run resumes. During performance recording, Hold/Run and each active voice's position are written into the clip. In Cutups, Loop pauses cut-count lane advancement while cuts continue; explicit Lane edits remain live. Sample playheads continue. When Tape INRT is above OFF, the tape wet path also slows to rest and accelerates on release.
Shift + LoopIn Glitch, hold for temporary Buffer Lock; tap twice quickly to latch; press once while latched to return to live history.
MenuToggle waveform and parameter pages.
Shift + MenuOpen or close the four-page System Report / Shortcuts view.
Shift + DeleteIn a report view: reset diagnostic peaks and miss counters.
Shift + PlayCycle Main → Clip Overview → Chain → Main. In Chain, knob 6 selects saved chains; knob 8 requests NEXT. See Chain controls.
BackClose a secondary view; from Main, save and exit Overtake.

Editing and safety gestures

GestureAction
Shift + Track 1–4Open Move Samples and the Thru Recordings archive for that lane.
Shift + DeleteClear the selected audio lane.
Undo (curved arrow)Undo the most recent clip, source, sample-edit or chain-edit action, including saved transition changes. Stop audio or performance recording first. Back handles navigation and exit.
Shift + knob 8 on Pattern FadeReturn smoothly to the source and commit it; automatic chaining turns off.
Shift + knob 8 / NEXT in ChainQueue the selected entry of the chain being edited, without interrupting current playback.
Delete + RecordAfter finishing recording with Record, remove the newest Overdub take while playback can continue. The base remains protected. See Overdub undo.
Shift + StepCopy the current clip to the destination Step slot.
Copy tap / Shift + Copy tapIn Clip Overview, Performance Loop, Overdub Takes, or Pattern Fade: copy/paste the current clip. In the Chain grid and chain pages: copy the selected entry’s recorded clip; paste an independent duplicate into an unused clip slot and assign it to the selected destination entry. Whole-chain copying stays on Chain Tools. Tap actions run when Copy is released.
Copy + StepIn those clip pages, copy the addressed clip to a temporary clipboard without launching it. In chain editors, copy the recorded clip referenced by that entry.
Shift + Copy + StepPaste to the addressed clip or chain position without launching it. A chain paste creates a new independent clip. Keep Copy held and add Shift for each paste; releasing Copy after a Step does not perform another action. Undo restores the last destination; stop playback to replace the current clip. See Clip copy/paste.
Delete + StepReset the destination clip and its four source assignments.
Shift + pad in CuesStore the displayed playhead in a local Cue (eight in Single, four per dual side, two per Quad part), snapped to the safest nearby stereo zero crossing on the selected lane.
Delete + pad in CuesClear that pad’s local Cue.

LED meanings

SurfaceState
PadsIn Single’s named Keys scales, playable pads are dark neutral grey and tonic pads are full white; the recalled map appears as soon as takeover opens. Active voices replace those colors with stable red, orange, yellow, green, azure, blue-violet, purple, and magenta slot colors. Split B uses muted teal and brighter teal roots; Shared Dual B uses muted plum and pink roots. Quad zones use neutral, teal, amber, and plum backgrounds with brighter roots. Active voice, cue, and roll colors take priority. Momentary notes return to their idle color on release. Latched notes remain lit until toggle-off or Hold Off expires; their voice color dims outside the stored pitch's pad mapping and brightens when that mapping returns.
StepsWhite occupied; orange active/stopped; green active/playing; red recording; blue-violet queued.
RecordRed during performance-data capture; orange during audio-lane capture; dim while idle.
PlayGreen while a performance loop runs; blue-violet while launch is queued.
Menu / BackDim when available; Menu bright in parameter/menu/help views; Back bright in secondary views.
UndoBright when a one-level safety undo is available; off when unavailable or recording. The key is the curved reverse arrow beside Shift.
Shift / DeleteDim when available, bright while held.
ArrowsDim in views where they navigate, bright while pressed; otherwise off.
Copy / Capture / MuteCopy bright in multi-instrument modes, dim in Single, off while recording blocks mode changes. Capture is dim in Single and A focus, bright for any non-A focus or the Pages picker. Mute is available only in multi-instrument modes and bright when its focused part is muted.
LoopBright white for Glitch Buffer Lock or a live Stack Hold; medium white for a recorded Stack Hold; dim white while scans run. The footer identifies the hold. In Quad, Loop is dark unless Glitch or Tape Inertia gives it a role.
TracksSelected lane on ordinary pages; selected clip bank in Clip Overview.

External MIDI

Musical notes, note-offs and polyphonic aftertouch use channels 1–4 for A–D according to the instrument mode. All Sound Off (CC 120) and All Notes Off (CC 123) are also accepted. External notes keep the pitches sent by the keyboard; Move’s pad scale does not quantize them.

High-resolution parameters use separate channels: 5–8 for A–D, 16 for shared controls. Part-control edits preserve Move’s selected part and page. Channels 5–8 and 16 also carry controller commands, so keep musical notes on 1–4. See MIDI control for setup, the current NRPN map and two-way feedback.

OXI E16 Remote

The Remote interface provides Engine, Stack, engine-specific and effect pages. Hold E16 Shift and turn encoder 1 to change pages. A occupies the top two encoder rows; B occupies the bottom two. The layout follows Single, Split, Shared Dual and Quad. Hold an encoder while turning for fine adjustment. In Quad, Shift + encoder 1 switches A/B ↔ C/D; Shift + encoder 16 leaves Remote. Edits preserve Move’s current part and page. See MIDI control for setup and connection checks.

High-resolution MIDI

The next-release map has 342 fixed NRPN addresses. Channels 5–8 control A–D; channel 16 controls shared parameters. Musical notes and polyphonic aftertouch use channels 1–4. See the high-resolution MIDI guide for complete value messages, ranges and feedback.
