Glitch
Glitch continuously records each voice into its own short history, then replaces selected moments with repeating fragments. A rotating pulse pattern decides when overrides happen; deterministic history jumps, pitch changes, reversals, shrinking loops, and a performable history lock make the result repeatable without becoming regular.
Controls edit the focused instrument. Instrument mode sets its lane and voice budget: eight voices in Single, four per part in either dual mode, or two per part in Quad. Quad omits stack controls because each part has one lane.
Good for: hard stutters, unstable meters, asymmetric accents, repeat-buffer interruption, abrupt silences between dense events, and patterns that can be recalled exactly by Seed.
Pages and navigation
Set Algorithm to Glitch. Up opens the shared Pads & Scale and Amp Envelope pages, followed by Stack Path, Glitch Clock, and Glitch Pattern. Every held voice owns an independent history buffer and pattern counter. Choose DRAW to add the editable Path Editor.
The controls common to every playback engine are documented in the shared Engine page table. Stack Path keeps moving each voice through its four-lane Single or Shared Dual stack, or two-lane Split stack while its history is being filled.
Buffer Lock
Hold Shift + Loop to freeze the recent history owned by every active Glitch voice. Release the chord to return to live capture. Tap the chord twice quickly to latch the histories, then press it once more to release the latch. Plain Loop remains Stack Hold, so lane motion and buffer capture can be stopped independently.
The Loop key turns orange and the display shows LOCK while Buffer Lock is active. Pattern, Stack Path, note pitch, and Effects continue to run against the fixed captures. A voice triggered while locked first fills its own approximately 171 ms history and then freezes; it does not borrow another voice's material. Locked audio is temporary and is not written into the clip bank—use Resample when the captured result should become a saved lane.
Glitch Clock — every parameter
| Knob | Display | Range | Detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | MODE | Repeat / Stutter / Scatter / Divide / Override | Repeat replays the newest fragment for Repeat Count. Stutter sustains the micro-loop toward the next clock event. Scatter selects an older fragment inside Jump. Divide halves the loop on successive passes. Override combines history jumps with seeded pitch displacement. |
| 2 | CLCK | Free / Tempo | Free uses Rate in hertz. Tempo derives the event interval from BPM and Division. |
| 3 | DIV | 1/4, 1/8, 1/8T, 1/16, 1/16T, 1/32 | Musical event interval in Tempo mode. Free mode ignores it. |
| 4 | RATE | 0.25–64 Hz | Events per second in Free mode. Tempo mode ignores it. |
| 5 | BUFF | 2–160 ms | Length of audio captured from the voice's recent history for one repeat loop. |
| 6 | REPT | 1–16 | Maximum passes through the captured fragment. Stutter may extend this far enough to reach the next event boundary. |
| 7 | CHNC | 0–100% | Seeded probability that an active pulse actually launches an override. |
| 8 | OVRD | 0–100% | Crossfades from uninterrupted playback to full repeat-buffer replacement while a glitch is active. |
Glitch Pattern — every parameter
| Knob | Display | Range | Detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | STEP | 1–16 | Length of the repeating event cycle. Odd lengths against a 4/4 loop create useful phase movement. |
| 2 | PULS | 0–16 | Number of active events distributed across Steps. Values above Steps behave as if limited to Steps. |
| 3 | ROTA | 0–15 | Rotates the distributed pattern without changing its length or pulse count. |
| 4 | JUMP | 0–160 ms | Maximum distance backward into the rolling history for Scatter and Override. |
| 5 | PITC | 0–24 st | Maximum seeded pitch displacement in Override mode. |
| 6 | REV% | 0–100% | Probability that a launched fragment reads backward. It applies in every mode. |
| 7 | DCAY | 0–100% | Level retained on every additional pass through the fragment. |
| 8 | SEED | 1–9999 | Rebuilds chance, jump, pitch, and reverse decisions. The same settings, note, and Seed reproduce the same choices. |
Starting points
| Result | Settings to try |
|---|---|
| Asymmetric interruption | Override, 1/16, 32 ms, 4 repeats, 11 steps / 5 pulses, Rotate 2, Jump 120 ms, Pitch 7 st, Reverse 25%. |
| Hard clocked stutter | Stutter, 1/8T, 12 ms, 100% Chance and Override, 8 steps / 3 pulses, Pitch 0, Reverse 0%, Decay 100%. |
| Collapsing fragments | Divide, Free 5 Hz, 96 ms, 6 repeats, 13 steps / 7 pulses, Reverse 40%, Decay 82%. |
Performance tip: lock a useful moment, then automate Steps, Pulses, Rotate, and Override in a performance loop. Buffer Lock itself remains a live gesture; Resample commits the result when needed.
