Slices
Slices divides the current Position/Field window into equal or detected regions and lets pad identity choose a region. Every voice still has independent pitch, direction, loop behavior, and a discrete lane.
Controls edit the focused instrument. Instrument mode sets its lane and voice budget: eight voices in Single, four per part in either dual mode, or two per part in Quad. Quad omits stack controls because each part has one lane.
Good for: drum chopping, transient performance, chromatic slices, repeated regions, velocity-layered slice sets, cue triggering, and tempo rolls.
Pages and navigation
Set Algorithm to Slices. Up opens the shared Pads & Scale and Amp Envelope pages, then Direct Play and the unique Slice Source page.
The controls common to every playback engine are documented in the shared Engine page table. The sections below cover Slices-specific controls.
Direct Play — every parameter
| Knob | Display | Range | Detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | PLAY | Forward / Reverse / Loop / Ping Pong | Chooses direction and whether the selected region stops or repeats at its boundaries. |
| 2 | VARI | Manual / Cycle / Random / No Repeat / Velocity | Chooses a discrete lane when each new region voice begins. |
| 3–8 | Reserved | — | Inactive positions available for future direct-play controls. |
Slice Source — every parameter
| Knob | Display | Range | Detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | SSRC | Equal / Transients | Chooses mathematical divisions or the selected lane's detected transient map. |
| 2 | SLIC | 1–64 | Number of equal regions, and the fallback count when a transient map is unavailable. |
| 3–8 | Reserved | — | Inactive positions available for future slice-source controls. |
Slice Source choices
| Source | How boundaries are made |
|---|---|
| Equal | Divides the outer Position/Field window into SLIC equally sized regions. |
| Transients | Uses up to 64 automatically detected regions for the chosen lane. If that lane has no transient map, SLIC equal regions are used instead. |
When detected transients are available, SLIC does not change their count. Pad numbers wrap through the available regions.
Play Mode choices
| Mode | Behavior inside the chosen region |
|---|---|
| Forward | Reads once from the region start to its end, then becomes silent. |
| Reverse | Reads once from the region end to its start, then becomes silent. |
| Loop | Repeats forward inside the region while the voice is active. |
| Ping Pong | Alternates forward and backward at the same audible pitch as the other modes. |
Variation choices
| Variation | Lane selected at note-on |
|---|---|
| Manual | The nearest whole lane selected by STAK. |
| Cycle | The next loaded lane in order, wrapping after the last. |
| Random | Any currently loaded lane. |
| No Repeat | A random lane, moved to the following loaded lane if it repeats the previous choice. |
| Velocity | Divides strike velocity across loaded lanes without changing output amplitude. |
Pad layouts
See the shared Pads & Scale reference for every layout and scale. In Keys, physical pad identity chooses a region while its mapped note also transposes that region. In Slices, pad identity chooses the region and every pad plays at Root pitch.
Window first, regions second: Position and Field crop the source area globally. Equal or transient boundaries are then mapped into that outer window, so moving either boundary changes what every slice contains.
