Drum Crash
Drum Crash combines four to sixteen inharmonic metal modes with a dense filtered noise wash and a separately tuned cup resonance. The crash, choke, and bell articulations share one alloy identity while changing how that synthesized field is excited and released.
Workflow
- Insert
s3g Drum Crashon a stereo instrument track and sequence notes 49, 50, and 53 for crash, choke, and bell articulations. - Route the track to the main stereo output or a headphone monitor.
- Set
TUNE,SIZE,ALLOY,SPREAD, andDENSITYfor the metal field. - Balance modal
DECAYagainstWASHandWASH DECAY. - Audition the bell and choke, then finish brightness, texture, character, width, and output trim.
Sound Model
SIZE shifts the implied plate scale and modal decay contour. ALLOY changes inharmonic ratios; SPREAD separates them; DENSITY selects how many are active. BRIGHTNESS, ATTACK, DECAY, and DAMPING shape the struck metal.
WASH, WASH DECAY, and TEXTURE add moving filtered noise around the modes. BELL and BELL TUNE define the cup path, which becomes dominant for the bell articulation. A choke hit releases active cymbal voices over CHOKE TIME.
MIDI Articulations
MIDI RECEIVE defaults to OMNI; choose CH 1 through CH 16 to accept only that channel when several drum instruments share one sequencer stream.
| Note | Articulation | Behavior |
|---|---|---|
| 49 | Crash | Full modal field and noise wash. |
| 50 | Crash Choke | Rapidly releases active crash energy. |
| 53 | Crash Bell | Emphasizes the separately tuned cup resonance. |
Other notes use the crash articulation and transpose the metal field according to NOTE TRACKING.
Controls
| Panel | Controls | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Metal Field | Tune / Note Tracking / Size / Alloy / Spread / Density / Brightness / Decay / Damping | Defines the inharmonic cymbal modes and lifetime. |
| Strike / Wash | Attack / Wash / Wash Decay / Texture | Balances initial contact and the diffuse noise field. |
| Bell / Articulation | Bell / Bell Tune / Choke Time | Shapes the cup and active-voice release. |
| Character | Drive / Bias / Compression / Rate Reduction / Bit Depth Reduction / Reconstruction / Character Tone | Adds nonlinear and conversion color. |
| Output / MIDI | Stereo Width / Velocity Sensitivity / Output Gain / MIDI Receive / Trigger | Sets image, dynamics, trim, channel filtering, and three articulation pads. |
Presets and Safe Random
The twelve presets include BALANCED CRASH, SHORT ELECTRIC, LONG SHEET, TRASH METAL, WIDE WASH, and BELL EDGE. RANDOM generates a bounded modal-and-wash voice while preserving OUTPUT GAIN, NOTE TRACKING, and VELOCITY SENSITIVITY.
Output
The modal center remains stable while width opens the wash and upper modes. Long decays are reported through the CLAP tail extension so a supporting host can keep rendering the cymbal after note events stop. At 0%, the output is exact dual mono.
