Drum Toms
Drum Toms places low, mid, and high synthesized toms in one correlated rack. The three drums keep independent tuning anchors but share their membrane, shell, pitch-fall, rim, stick, and character design, making it practical to reshape a complete family as one instrument.
Workflow
- Insert
s3g Drum Tomson a stereo instrument track and sequence notes 45, 48, and 50 for the low, mid, and high heads. - Route the track to the main stereo output or a headphone monitor.
- Set
LOW TUNE,MID TUNE, andHIGH TUNEas an ordered family. - Shape their common shell and decay contour, then audition the corresponding rim notes.
- Open
STEREO WIDTHif the low-to-high rack should spread across the image.
Sound Model
Each slot runs the same membrane-and-shell voice used by the floor tom, with slot-specific damping, seed identity, and stereo position. DECAY SPREAD changes the low-to-high lifetime contour around the common BODY DECAY. Positive values let the lower drum ring longer; negative values reverse that contour.
The rack's rim notes excite a tonal rim and short stick band at the matching head pitch. RIM CHARACTER, RIM DECAY, and STICK TONE therefore reshape all three articulations without destroying their family resemblance.
MIDI Articulations
MIDI RECEIVE defaults to OMNI; choose CH 1 through CH 16 to accept only that channel when several drum instruments share one sequencer stream.
| Drum | Head notes | Rim notes |
|---|---|---|
| Low | 45 | 57 |
| Mid | 47 or 48 | 37, 59, or 60 |
| High | 50 | 62 |
Other notes select the nearest low, mid, or high slot and transpose its head according to NOTE TRACKING. The named rim notes are normalized to the pitch of their matching head.
Controls
| Panel | Controls | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Kit / Pitch | Low Tune / Mid Tune / High Tune / Note Tracking / Pitch Drop / Sweep Time | Sets the three anchors and their common pitch gesture. |
| Shape | Shell Spread / Body / Ring / Body Decay / Decay Spread / Punch | Defines the shared membrane and low-to-high decay contour. |
| Articulation | Rim Level / Rim Character / Rim Decay / Stick Tone | Shapes the matching rim family. |
| Character | Drive / Bias / Compression / Rate Reduction / Bit Depth Reduction / Reconstruction / Character Tone | Adds nonlinear and conversion color to the rack. |
| Output / MIDI | Stereo Width / Velocity Sensitivity / Output Gain / MIDI Receive / Trigger | Sets image, dynamics, trim, channel filtering, and six manual head/rim pads. |
Presets and Safe Random
The twelve factory racks include BALANCED RACK, DEEP THREE, ASCENDING WOOD, RIM KNOCKS, ELECTRIC FALL, and WIDE RACK. RANDOM generates ordered, correlated low/mid/high tunings along with a safe common voice. It preserves OUTPUT GAIN, NOTE TRACKING, and VELOCITY SENSITIVITY.
Output
Width places low toward the left, mid at center, and high toward the right while retaining coherent mono collapse. At 0%, the two output channels are identical.
